Overview

Hot? Cold? Just Right? 🥶🔥🚿

Ever stepped into the shower and played a game of “Guess That Temperature”? Me too.

So I made this handy little hot/cold indicator to end the daily arctic surprise or accidental scalding.

A lot of shower knobs and mixer valves come from the factory with no markings at all, or with worn-off, barely legible ones that made sense years ago and mean nothing now. That is not a huge problem if you are the only one using the shower and you have long since memorized which way is which, but it turns into a genuine hazard for guests, kids, or anyone half-asleep first thing in the morning who turns the wrong way and gets a blast of ice water or scalding heat before they can react.

These 3D-printed badges for the shower knob display the sun for hot and the snowflake for cold, because nobody wants to feel like a rotisserie chicken or a popsicle first thing in the morning. The icons are deliberately universal rather than text-based; a sun and a snowflake read the same way regardless of language, which matters more than you would think if you ever have guests over who do not speak the same language you do.

Simple, colorful, and shower-friendly. Stick it near your shower knobs using a little glue or transparent silicone, and save your skin (literally).

It is a small enough print that it costs almost nothing to make one for every bathroom in the house, and once you have printed the first pair the mount points are already worked out, so any repeat is a five-minute job. I would rather spend that five minutes than relive the guessing game one more morning.

🖨️ Printed on my Bambu with some juicy multicolor action. 👍 Your skin and your sanity will thank you.

A silly problem, admittedly, but a genuinely satisfying one to fix permanently.

Two tiny badges, and no more morning temperature roulette.

I made these with MakerWorld’s Make My Sign tool rather than modeling the icons by hand, which made it easy to try a few icon and color combinations before settling on the sun and snowflake pairing. If your knobs use a different color scheme than mine, it is worth regenerating the badges in matching colors rather than sticking with what worked in my bathroom.
