Overview
This is a robust shelf bracket designed with OnShape.
A lot of the shelf brackets you can buy off the shelf, no pun intended, are either flimsy stamped metal that bends under a real load, or bulky decorative pieces that were never meant to carry serious weight. I wanted something in between: a bracket sized and shaped specifically for the load path I actually needed, strong enough to trust with books, tools, or monitor arms, without looking like an industrial part bolted to a living room wall.
I recommend printing this part in PETG or ABS to enhance durability. While the design remains structurally solid if PLA is used, PETG and ABS offer greater robustness over time.
For PETG and ABS, I suggest keeping the outer wall speed at 100 mm/s or lower to enhance the quality of the outer surface.
The public OnShape project allows you to remix it easily; the design is parametric with variables to configure the bracket according to your requirements. That matters more for a load-bearing part than for most of what I print: every wall, every shelf, every mounting situation is a little different, and a bracket that is the wrong depth or the wrong angle is not going to hold up no matter how strong the material is. Being able to change the dimensions in OnShape rather than being stuck with my exact proportions means you can size it to your own shelf before you ever print it.
Note: For increased robustness, use Gyroid, Cubic, or Adaptive Cubic infill (30% minimum) and at least 3 walls. These infill patterns spread load more evenly through the part than a simple grid, which matters here since the bracket takes force pulling and twisting at an angle, not just straight down.
